FILM: New Actors in "The Twilight Saga: Eclipse"

Here are the new faces of the next film:

Bryce Dallas Howard will take over as Victoria. Xavier Samuels will play Riley Biers, who was turned by Victoria to build an army. Jodelle Ferland will play Bree, a newborn vampire who was turned by Riley.

Jack Huston will play Royce King, Rosalie's former fiance, and Sabrina Frank will play Vera, Rosalie's best friend when she was human.

Julia Jones will play Leah Clearwater, the only female werewolf, and BooBoo Stewart will play Seth Clearwater, a future member of Jacob's spinoff wolf pack.

Catalina Sandino Moreno will play Maria, the vampire who turned Jasper and tried to create an army of vampires to take over territories in the past. Kirsten Prout will play Lucy and Leah Gibson will play Nettie, vampires that Jasper killed in the past for turning on Maria.

TRAILER: Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

Director: David Yates (Order of the Phoenix & Half-Blood Prince)

Plot: Voldemort's power is growing stronger. He now has control over the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron, and Hermione decide to leave school to finish Dumbledore's work and find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat the Dark Lord. Their friendship and their wizard skills are put to the test.

Reaction: Voldemort looks even more sinister in this one. I'm worried about where the film will cut off. I mean, I know what happens in the end, but still. lol

Release Date: November 19
[Part II comes out July 15, 2011]

TRAILER: Rapunzel's Animated Tale "Tangled"

Plot: The long-haired Princess Rapunzel has spent her entire life in a tower, but when she falls in love with a bandit who was passing by, she must venture into the outside world for the first time to find him.

Cast: Mandy Moore and Zachary Levi

Reaction: My favorite Disney princesses are the ones that can save themselves (Jasmine, Fiona, etc.). So I'm overjoyed that they've remodeled Rapunzel as more of a hermit than a damsel in distress, because really she could've just climbed down herself.

Release Date: November 24

TRAILER: Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, & Rupert Grint in "Wild Target"

Plot: A hitman tries to retire but a beautiful thief may change his plans.

Cast: Bill Nighy, Emily Blunt, Rupert Grint, Rupert Everett, and Martin Freeman (The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy)

Reaction: I love watching Rupert Grint act like a bumbling idiot, and it's always refreshing to see Emily Blunt smile. Plus, British action comedies rarely fail to be funny, especially when shooting is involved (see Snatch, In Bruges, etc.).

Release Date: October 8

TRAILER: Bruce Willis & Mary Louise Parker's action comedy "Red"

Just when I thought Bruce Willis was down for the count, post-Cop Out and pre-Die Hard 5, he just crawls right back up.

Plot: When his idyllic life is threatened by a high-tech assassin, former black-ops agent Frank Moses reassembles his old team in a last ditch effort to survive.

Cast: Bruce Willis, Helen Mirren, Mary-Louise Parker ("Weeds"), Morgan Freeman, John Malkovich, Karl Urban (the doc in Star Trek), Richard Dreyfuss, Brian Cox (X-Men 2), and James Remar (the dad on "Dexter")

Reaction: I think getting to see the classy Helen Mirren tote a machine gun is reason enough to watch this film. But I also like that it's all those old fogies you love in Hollywood getting together to show that they can play more than someone's grandparent or a wise-cracking old person. If only they had a 1-minute cameo of Betty White. For that reason alone people would come out in droves.

Release Date: October 15

FILM NEWS: Bullock & Reynolds Reunite, Mortal Kombat Rebirth Trailer, and more

• I can't believe Knight & Day only opened at #3 with $20 mil, even with a 2-day lead. Now blogs are saying the studio isn't too interested in developing Mission Impossible 4 anymore. And if they do, they'll have to add a younger agent for Tom Cruise's character to train. Start the casting rumors...now! My vote's for a 20something guy who looks fairly innocent, but capable of taking care of himself when push comes to shove, like Bryan Greenberg ("How to Make It in America" and The Perfect Score) or Christopher Egan (Letters to Juliet and "Kings").

• Speaking of sequels, even though everyone involved in the disappointing Indiana Jones 4 admits that it wasn't the best plot or execution, there are rumors that a 5th film is the works. They're planning to have both Indie (Harrison Ford) and his son (Shia Labeouf) go to the Bermuda Triangle. And, this time around, there will be far less CGI and far more realistic surroundings. Although, I imagine all the inevitable-storm effects will need to be fabricated.

• Bloggers are saying the success of the Karate Kid remake has inspired the remake of several other 80s films, including Don't Tell Mom the Babysitter's Dead. That doesn't seem logical. Karate Kid did well because of 1) production, 2) star power, and 3) stunts. No matter how many stars they get in this film, there's no way they'll be able to top that.

• Supermodel Gemma Ward (left) was blessed with a unique face, a fish-face to be exact. So it only makes sense that she's cast in the fourth Pirates of the Caribbean film for a small speaking role.

• I wish Johnny Depp could play Don Quijote in the upcoming adventure adaptation. Because when I think of a crazy person who thinks he's capable of anything, I think of Captain Jack Sparrow!

• Looks like Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are going to redo/remake Gerard Butler and Jennifer Aniston's Bounty Hunter, slapping on a new title, Most Wanted, and making Reynolds an FBI agent and Bullock a suspect he unsuccessfully escorts to court. Ok, so it's not the exact same story, but it's definitely the same dynamic. I wish they had switched it up though. Instead of the guy hunting the girl, they could've made her channel Agent Gracie Hart and have her protect him.

• Wow! Two Nicholas Sparks-written worlds are about to collide. Rachel McAdams (The Notebook) and Channing Tatum (Dear John) will star in the romantic drama The Vow. Think of it as an even more satisfying version of The Notebook. Two newlyweds get into a car accident that leaves the wife with post-coma amnesia. Instead of dissolving their new marriage, the husband tries to win her heart all over again. Bring tissue boxes—yes, boxes.

Channing must have stock in Kleenex, because he's been on a romantic-lead kick lately. He just signed on for the sci-fi romantic epic that's a cross between The Time Traveler's Wife and The Fountain. In Ion, "a man travels to different Earths and dimensions in order to find his reincarnated lover." I suggest you ladies hydrate.

• Hmmm, Sam Worthington and Chris Pine competing for Reese Witherspoon's affections? I could go for that. Of course, casting for the action rom-com This Means War has changed about 80 times since it was first announced, so I won't hold my breath. But considering that the plot involves two best friends/veteran spies who fall for their new roommate, and end up fighting for her affections using their black-ops warfare tactics, I think these two could pull it off. Plus, I'm excited to see if Worthington can actually play a romantic lead. Dreamy? Yes. Romantic? No.

• I'm almost as excited to watch Joseph Gordon-Levitt take on Michael Shannon. I've always thought Shannon looked like he could murder an entire family and then stop for a snack, but when I see Gordon-Levitt playing mean, I get goosebumps. It's literally like he has two faces: the sweet boy who learned French to woo a girl in 10 Things I Hate About You, and the sinister dream stealer in the upcoming Inception. In the thriller Premium Rush, Gordon-Levitt will play a bike messenger who gets chased through New York by a dirty cop (Shannon) because he's unknowingly transporting incriminating evidence. It'll be interesting to see how he handles himself against such an intimidating figure.

• Ok, I've accepted that Judd Apatow and his wife Leslie Mann like making movies together, so how about we upgrade her status? When he directs her in the comedy Business Trip, which is being toted as the female Hangover, where three women on a corporate trip fail to actually work, can she get two accomplished co-stars? Like say Tina Fey, Kristen Wiig, or Drew Barrymore? She's usually the only chick in her films, so it's really important that her first estrogen-fest has credibility, so that she can finally prove that it's not just the guys that are funny.

Russell Crowe's strategy for redeeming himself in the public eye seems to be to simply play redeeming characters. Unfortunately, it sounds like the latest project he's signed on for is like a feature film version of USA's "Burn Notice." Or rather they're using the popularity of that series to adapt the 80s spy series "The Equalizer," where a former operative of a covert intelligence organization seeks redemption for his dark past by offering his services to civilians in need of help. Pfft. There's no way he can top Michael.

• One of Hollywood's go-to hot girls, Amber Heard (left, Never Back Down), is rumored to be taking over the Mystique role in the prequel X-Men: First Class. I guess after Megan Fox passed, they had to aim lower.

• Speaking of the Fox, I'm a little worried about the upcoming Transformers film, which is rumored to be the last. Michael Bay keeps saying things like he removed the "dorky comedy" and that "it has a really killer ending." First of all, it needs the comedy so it's not all explosions, and secondly, please don't kill Sam (Shia Labeouf). It's not like you're going for an Oscar. There's no need to kill off a character.

• The Australian pre-apocalyptic indie Tomorrow When the War Begins seems to be the beginning of a trend. New Regency is developing a similar film, the sci-fi thriller The Darkest Hour, which will follow "a group of kids struggling to survive in Moscow after an alien invasion." Of course, it'll probably make more since it'll star Max Minghella (Art School Confidential), Emile Hirsch (Into the Wild), and Olivia Thirlby (The Wackness and Juno). Then there's the Red Dawn remake, which follows "a group of teenagers looking to save their town from an invasion of Chinese and Russian soldiers." That's quite an interesting development. Audiences are losing interest in superheroes and gaining interest in the youth saving the world.

• I was worried that Princeton graduate Wentworth Miller ("Prison Break") had gotten lazy and just decided to do a slew of action movies (Resident Evil: Afterlife and BioShock). But it turns out he's been busy writing the family drama Stoker. Normally, a TV actor writing a script isn't a big deal, but he has Ridley and Tony Scott producing, and Carey Mulligan and Jodie Foster starring. That must be one interesting script. It "follows an eccentric teenager whose enigmatic and estranged uncle returns to the family after the death of the girl's father." I'll admit, I'm intrigued.

• I am a little too amped for the alleged Mortal Kombat reboot, where they'll be a modernized and more gruesome version of Reptile, Baraka, Johnny Cage, Sonya Blade, and Scorpion. Can't. Freaking. Wait!

• I was bummed that I wouldn't be able to see Nicholas Braun on ABC Family's "10 Things I Hate About You" anymore, since they canceled it, but I'm glad to see that's left his schedule open for films. He'll be in the teenage ensemble cast for the "John Hughes-esque" comedy Prom with Aimee Teegarden ("Friday Night Lights").

In other TV news...

• I did not love ABC Family's kitschy sci-fi comedy "The Middleman," but I did greatly appreciate its introduction of Natalie Morales. She's not your typical one-note pretty actress. She's got some bite to her, and with the right support she could be the next Sandra Bullock or Natalie Portman. So I find it completely illogical for USA to nix her underutilized character on "White Collar" in favor of installing Marsha Thomason ("Las Vegas" and "Lost") as the series's eye candy. Thank god the geniuses behind "Parks & Recreation" snatched her up." I hope she gets to stick around even if imbecile Tom screws up their relationship.

• I'm also genuinely confused by the pre-premiere recasting of Jessica Parker Kennedy's character in JJ Abrams's next TV project "Undercovers." Apparently, he saw fit to replace her with Mekia Cox, who was previously seen as Dixon's pregnancy-faking older woman on "90210." Since Kennedy already shot the pilot, people will assume she didn't test well, but I think they just cast her in the wrong role. I've seen her in action. She has a lot of range—from nerdy and sweet in Another Cinderella Story to vicious and vindictive in "Smallville" and "V." She just hasn't found the right role yet. She could easily be a romantic interest for Troy on "Community," a tone-deaf character on "Glee," an intern or protege on "Lie to Me," a new recruit on "Rookie Blue," a new student on "90210," or Katherine's evil minion on "Vampire Diaries." Hopefully, her role in Seth Rogen and Joseph Gordon-Levitt's upcoming cancer dramedy will turn some heads.

TRAILER: Seth Rogen in "The Green Hornet"

Plot: Seth Rogen plays a hard-partying heir to a publishing throne who decides to give up his lifestyle and clean-up the streets after his father is found dead. So think of it like a younger, less brooding version of Batman.

Cast: Jay Chou plays his trusty, martial arts expert slash gadget-provider sidekick Kato. Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds) plays the main villain. And Cameron Diaz plays his secretary slash love interest.

Rogen has been slowly gearing up to play the iconic comic book character The Green Hornet for a while now, even before it was announced that he would write, produce, and star in it. The first sign that he was about to switch genres on us was his slow integration into action films, with Pineapple Express and Observe and Report. One did well. One weirded us out. Neither convinced the public that Rogen was action hero material. And, of course, it didn't help that Ryan Reynolds was then cast in The Green Lantern, and proceeded to strut around his set with a ridiculously tight six pack. Reinventing yourself with such stiff competition can be hard.

So for the next few minutes, I'm going to pretend like I don't know Seth Rogen. I've never seen him 50+lbs heavier. I haven't heard his goofy, semi-Beavis&Butthead laugh. And he hasn't been a comedian for the last 10 years. Nope. He is now a newcomer, a fresh face on the action scene.

Release Date: January 14

The Verdict: Ok I couldn't pretend. lol I was afraid that Chou's lack of star power would diminish his chemistry with Rogen, but they're pretty in sync for complete strangers, especially since Rogen is so accustomed to starring alongside his real life friends. My favorite parts were the Kato = swiss army knife comparison, accidental gassing, and the traffic cam explosion—cause who doesn't wish they could do that? All in all, I'm glad they decided to add some humor to it. There's no way Rogen's usual audience could fully enjoy this unless he made them laugh at least once. With any luck, after this, he'll be able to do a full-blown drama without one smirk.

TRAILER: Tomorrow, When the War Began

Plot: When their country is invaded and their families are taken, eight unlikely high school teenagers band together to fight.

Reaction: When I first read the synopsis to this film, I thought, "It has to be low budget. It's an Australian indie. How far could they take this?" Watch the trailer. You'll see how far.

Release Date: This is probably the first time I wish an Australian film had a US release date...well, at least DVD. Since it'll be in overseas theaters in September, we could probably expect to see it on Netflix by Christmas.

TRAILER: Luke Wilson's "Middle Men"

This might be premature, but I'm going to go ahead and say it anyway: Luke Wilson might have just found his way back.

Middle Men is the fictional story of how three guys figured out how to create the most profitable business on the Internet: online porn—and how they managed to get themselves into a lot of trouble while doing it. The story is interesting for two reasons: 1) the high-stakes involvement of politicians and 2) their inevitable monetary downfall.

Now while this isn't the type of film I'd see at the movies, since I imagine there's plenty of T+A for the gentlemen that I'll want to fast-forward through, it is the type that might bring Wilson back to form. He's no longer the passive, mellow character he's been embodying for the last few excruciating films, but the brains of the operation. It's about time.

Cast: Luke Wilson, Giovanni Ribisi (Avatar), Gabriel Macht (The Spirit), James Caan ("Las Vegas"), Kelsey Grammer ("Frasier"), Terry Crews (Gamer), and Laura Ramsey (The Covenant and She's the Man).

TV: "Pretty Little Liars": Rounding up the Suspects

The new ABC Family teen drama "Pretty Little Liars" has a murder mystery at its core. Many have described it as "Desperate Housewives" meets "Gossip Girl." If we were to run with that comparison, then the murder victim Allison (Sasha Pieterse from "Heroes") would be a cross between Edie and Blair, the provocative Queen B who plays her friends like puppets and treats life like it's a perpetual game, where every player is a pawn.

The series takes place a year after her disappearance, the girls are no longer bffs, and they've all changed. Soon after school begins, the girls start to receive cryptic and scandalous messages from someone claiming to be A. But by the end, the police find her body.

On the night of her disappearance, Spencer heard a scream. Since she was the last one to hear A and the only one missing from the group when Aria woke up, she would logically be the first suspect. Or would she? The problem with being Queen is that you have an endless list of enemies. Check out the murder suspects and their motives:

Name: Spencer (Troian Avery Bellisario from Billboard Dad)
Pre-Disappearance: bookworm slash goody-two-shoes
Post-Disappearance: Being a political intern, remodeling the barn in her backyard to move into it, and flirting with her sister Melissa's fiancee Wren (Julian Morris from "24" and "ER").
Secret Message: A sent an email alluding to her past dalliances with Melissa's boyfriends.
Motive: To keep her quiet about betraying her sister.
Murder Meter: 3. It doesn't seem possible that she would kill A just because she threatened to tell Melissa, especially since she threatened to tell everyone about what Allison did to Jenna—more on that later. However, like I said, she was the last person to hear her that night and she was missing when Aria woke up. Also, she was VERY adamant about moving into the barn, and if that's the barn they were sleeping in that night, which is likely, since she imagined seeing Allison through the window when she got the cryptic email from A, then maybe she's trying to hide something in the barn.

Name: Aria (Lucy Hale from "Privileged" and The Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants 2)
Pre-Disappearance: pink-haired punk-rocker wannabe
Post-Disappearance: down-to-earth writer with a thing for hot "college guy" Ezra who turns out to be her English teacher Mr. Fitz
Secret Message: She received a text message referring to not only her student-teacher relationship, but the one she and A saw her dad having.
Motive: She promised her dad she would never tell her mom that she saw him making out with some young blonde in his car, so perhaps to help him keep their family together, she'd shut her up.
Murder Meter: 1. Not only was Aria asleep when it happened, she's the kindest of all of them. There isn't a murderous bone in her body. Plus, when she realized her new guy was her teacher and he coldly rejected her, she maturely accepted it and said her farewells. Someone that mature, would never act so irrationally.

Name: Emily (newcomer Shay Mitchell)
Pre-Disappearance: conservative and quiet
Post-Disappearance: sporty and slowly edging towards rebellion as she tries marijuana for the first time and flirts with her neighbor Mya
Secret Message: She received a folded up note in her gym locker that alluded to her new lesbian relationship and her secret past ones.
Motive: Her mother is pretty adamant about conforming to society's idea of a normal teenage girl. She even looked down on Aria for having pink hair, so I'm pretty sure she won't approve of her daughter's secret sexual orientation.
Murder Meter: 4. I'm only giving her a higher number because I have a feeling A was her first crush that may have been reciprocated, and she could've been driven to retaliate in a moment of passion. But since she thought Mya meant they found A alive at the end of the episode and seemed genuinely shocked to see a bodybag roll past her, it's not very likely she killed her.

Name: Hanna (Ashley Benson from "Eastwick" and "Days of Our Lives")
Pre-Disappearance: insecure and possibly anorexic
Post-Disappearance: She's the new Queen B—fashionable, popular, and she even made-over former geek Mona into her sidekick. Also, her father left her mother, so she shoplifts, hoping to get his attention.
Secret Message: It was more of an insult. She told her that she'll probably get fat in prison, which was a throwback to the incessant amount of "friendly reminders" she used to give her about her weight.
Motive: How many people wouldn't just love to assault someone who called them fat every. single. day? Plus, with A out of the way, she was able to take over the throne.
Murder Meter: 5. Her jealousy is still fresh and she has no problem stealing or telling lies. It's just a short skip and a hop to harder crimes.

I think ultimately, none of the girls killed A and that it's more likely that whoever is sending the messages either did it or saw who did it.  These suspects are split between people who either had a huge secret they think A shared with the girls or people who would want to avenge A's death out of love.

Name: Mona (Janel Parrish from Bratz)
Background: former nerd and present bff to Hanna
Motive: In a flashback, we're shown that A and Aria dodged Mona when she tried to catch up to them. Being a geeky, social pariah can lead a person down a vindictive path.
Murder Meter: 9. She was on the outskirts of the clique until A died. Perhaps knocking her off, opened up a spot. Plus, whoever sent those messages would have to have Hanna and Aria's cell phone number, access to the girl's locker room, and Spencer's email address. Who more likely than Hanna's bff, who probably got plenty of dirty secrets out of her in the last year as her confidant. And if Hanna didn't spill, Mona has a history of following them around. She could've witnessed all of the secrets mentioned in the messages. And, of course, there's also the sketchy fact that even though both Mona and Hanna shoplifted, the cameras only caught Hanna.
Friend or Foe? There's arguments for her being both. With A's manipulative past, she could've been Mona's friend on the DL. And if she was, Mona could be doing this to get back at the girls for whatever they did. However, I prefer the "revenge against the popular girls" scenario—infiltrate and destroy!
8/11 Update: Hmm, the texts really did seem to appear every time Mona went off-screen or was being neglected, whether it was when they were deciding if they were going to her party or ignoring its festivities. Plus, the major mayhem went down at her party.

Name: Jenna (Tammin Sursok from Spectacular and "The Young and the Restless")
Background: So far all we know is that A did something to her that might've led to her becoming blind.
Motive: Whatever led to her blindness.
Murder Meter: 10. The fact that they introduced her in the last five minutes and the preview suggested that she could in fact see, pushed her to the top of my list.
Friend or Foe? Foe
7/13 Update: In this episode, we saw a different, somewhat softer side of Jenna. She seemed concerned by Toby's sudden friendship with Emily. It was like jealousy mixed with overprotection. This could either mean he doesn't know she's taunting them or that she doesn't want anything to do with them at all.
7/20 Update: While it's true that she seemed very heartbroken by Toby's disappearance/death/car accident, and I think her eagerness to keep his psych file under wraps was justified, I wouldn't count her out just yet. She could've staged the whole thing after he disobeyed her, and last week's town population sign edit could have been a foreshadowing.
8/11 Update: Toby says she's in love with him, which means she could've killed Alison out of jealousy.

Name: Toby Cavanaugh (newcomer Keegan Allen)
Background: Jenna's big brother
Motive: Allison had something on him, he often peeped on them, and he knows Allison blinded his little sister.
Murder Meter: 3. He seems to have a temper, since he wailed on Emily's perverted boyfriend when he tried to rape her in the locker room. But he's more of a savior than a murderer. However, it could be that he was trying to save someone from Allison.
Friend or Foe? His loyalty lies with his possessive sister, but he's friendly.
7/13 Update: He seems rather harmless. I realize the episode was left on a cliffhanger of him chasing Emily, but it's obviously a misunderstanding. In fact, the most violent person in that scene was Emily. lol Why can't he have a "9-01 Free at Last" tattoo? True, Allison was blackmailing him with the knowledge that he was sleeping with his stepsister Jenna, but that doesn't mean he killed her. Plus, I don't think he'd be dumb enough to wear a confession. And he couldn't have changed the town's population minus 1 if he was busy chasing her.
7/20 Update: While it's true that Toby could've faked his own death or purposefully sent Emily on a guilt trip with his disappearing act, I'm still not convinced he could be the killer or the blackmailer.
8/11 Update: Yay! Toby was arrested so he can't be A. Unfortunately, now we know his step sister forced him to be with her. Man, she's crazy! Hopefully, the police will believe him.
Name: Mya (Bianca Lawson from "Buffy the Vampire Slayer" and "Vampire Diaries")
Background: She's the new resident of A's house.
Motive: ?
Murder Meter: 6. While I don't think she murdered A, she could be taunting the girls with information she found in the house, since all of A's stuff was still in it for some reason.
Friend or Foe? Friend. The only way I'd see her as a friend of A's is if—and this may be a longshot but—she were an undercover cop. Think about it:
1) She moved into the house and over the course of 2-3 days, we didn't see her parents once.
2) There's no way the 30-year-old actress looks 16.
3) And what better way to convince a lesbian teenager that you're cool and young than to offer her weed and flirt with her?
It would be a great way to flush out the criminal—put them at ease and make them believe she's dead.
6/28 Update: After asking Emily a lot of questions about A, she gave the impression that she hated Queen B's, like she would hold a grudge against A if she ever met her. Plus, the girls said that A had been dating somebody else's boyfriend. What if the boyfriend was Mona's? Just something to think about.
7/13 Update: She seemed genuinely hurt and jealous when she saw Emily enter the dance with Toby.
8/11 Update: Mya seems a little sketch in this episode. The way she eyeballed Emily's mom when she pretty much shooed her out of the house. But, of course, we know that was because she knows they're lovers. None of her behavior was murder/blackmailed-related though.

Name: Melissa (Torrey DeVitto from "One Tree Hill" and "Beautiful People")
Background: She's Spencer's sister. The "golden child" of the family. Now, a college a student with a fiancee, she can do no wrong.
Motive: If A told her about her boyfriend sleeping/making out with her sister, she could've killed her in a fit of rage.
Murder Meter: 6. Maybe it's the fact that this actress has already played a psychopath before on "One Tree Hill," but she gives me a crazy vibe. I have a feeling that, like a Stepford wife, she'll go above and beyond to get her perfect life, even if it means trampling over everyone else's.
Friend or Foe? Foe
6/29 Update: Her recent jilting gives me the impression that she's all talk and no action. Granted, killing her sister is way harsher than killing a neighbor, but she seems more devious than murderous.
7/13 Update: She wasn't supposed to be at the dance as an alumni representative, but she was conveniently requested. I, however, think this has more to do with her revenge for Spencer's fiancee-poaching than anything else. Then again, whoever had access to the fortune teller's cards had to have been involved in the dance, which, besides the girls, leaves Ezra and Melissa, and Ezra's too busy trying to figure out who A is.
8/11 Update: Her comment about Alison deserving what she got coupled with the fact that Ian (Ryan Merriman) was sleeping/dating both of them could be motive...but it did seem like she was trying to bury the hatchet with Spencer.

Name: Ezra (newcomer Ian Harding)
Background: World-traveler (lol) and college graduate, who is starting a new job at the girls' high school as their English teacher.
Motive: ?
Murder Meter: 4. Here's the thing. Ezra seriously came out of left field. First off, I'm not quite sure why either of them were in what appeared to be a bar in the middle of the afternoon, but it was suspicious that they were the only ones there. So he could've planned it that way. Ok fine, longshot. But it's also odd that he didn't realize she wasn't over 18. Ok true it's only a 2-3 year difference, but there are obvious age-factors. And after rejecting her offer to continue their relationship, he decides to pursue it anyway and kisses her on the steps of the church at the funeral. That seems kind of unprofessional. Ok and if you wanna disregard that cause he's probably 22 and never been professional before, fine. But why was he at the funeral in the first place? Allison's mom questioned why Jenna was there, as though there was an exclusive only-if-you-knew-her guest list. So why is the new guy there? His as-yet-unrevealed relation to A makes me very wary.
Friend or Foe? Undecided. If A somehow faked her death, then he could be helping her. Of course, A was very short on friends. Lover is more like it.
7/6 Update: I'm thinking about crossing him off my suspect list. Not because he acted outraged by the texts from A, but because he seemed sincerely worried about getting ditched by Aria post-high school…unless that was a problem he also had with A—a problem he remedied. lol
P.S. Wouldn't it be creepy if that short story about the girl looking up at the summer sky, metaphorically letting the balloon go, was about A?
7/20 Update: After Aria told him about A, he mysteriously disappeared from school and is now looking for a new job. The fact that he leaves at the same time Toby disappears is interesting, but not incriminating.
8/11 Update: He's officially off the hook. He was inside the car with Aria when A wrote her peeping-Tom message in the steam of his window. Then again, he was driving a car through the woods when Hannah gets run over.

Name: Aria's dad Mr. Montgomery (Chad Lowe)
Background: After A and Aria saw him making out with a blonde in his car, he says he decided to refocus on his family, so he took them to live in Europe for a year.
Motive: He often makes sure that his daughter is still willing to keep their secret. So maybe he made sure A kept it a different way.
Murder Meter: 7. Leaving town after her disappearance was pretty shady. And since we haven't heard if they ID-ed the body properly yet—since there was a closed casket, I'm assuming she had no face. Worst of all would be if that wasn't his only lover, and if he was involved with A too.
Friend or Foe? Foe
8/11 Update:  He's so busy trying to balance his checkbook he doesn't have time to play with teenagers.

Name: Aria's mom Mrs. Montgomery (Holly Marie Combs from "Charmed")
Background: Loving, doting mother and wife.
Motive: A fit of rage after learning of her husband's affair?
Murder Meter: 2. If A was in the habit of revealing other people's secrets, she could've told her about her husband's affair. And the way she practically interrogated her husband when he implied that he had been running from something, made it seem like she was trying to get him to confess.
Friend or Foe? Foe
7/6 Update: She seems genuinely surprised by the revelation and by how long the secret has been kept, so unless she has a secret of her own, I doubt she was involved.

Name: Mike (newcomer Cody Christian)
Background: Aria's little brother
Motive: ?
Murder Meter: 2. We saw him very shortly in the pilot. He seemed decent. But when I was googling for his name, I skimmed a few words that would suggest that he's involved in a love triangle in the novels. If he was in the habit of getting involved with Aria's friends and A was as much of a wild child as the flashbacks suggest, then it could've been jealousy. But I won't be able to tell for sure until I see a few more scenes with him.
Friend or Foe? Undecided

Name: Meredith (Amanda Schull from "One Tree Hill")
Background: Aria's dad's lover
Motive: If she knows that he was dumping her because Allison and Aria knew of their affair, she could've been trying to quiet Allison.
Murder Meter: 5. While it may be true that Aria isn't old enough to be involved in her parent's marital affairs and any adult would've blown her off, Meredith doesn't seem to be very much aware of reality. She's trying to insert herself into his life, taking a job across the hall from him, meeting his wife, and happening to stop by at all the places he frequents. While, on the one hand, that would be considered fate, it isn't when someone has dumped you, left the country for a year because of you, and repeatedly rejects you.
Friend or Foe? Definitely a foe. I'm just waiting for the moment she snaps at Aria in a jealous rage. But I'm also worried she might set her sights on Ezra just as revenge.

ALBUM REVIEW: Travie McCoy's "Break-up" Album "Lazarus"

Word is Gym Class Heroes frontman Travie McCoy was inspired to write his first solo album after getting dumped (and allegedly cheated on) by Katy Perry. I was expecting a Pink-scale break-up album, but really the only track that overtly expresses his pain is "Don't Pretend," where he cleverly and angrily manages to imply the word "whore" by starting with a verse that rhymes with it and then ending it differently. That said, Travie seems more interested on skirting the fine lines that separate pop, rock, and rap with relatively upbeat messages. There are few hits and misses; here are the ones that knock it out of the park:

"Dr. Feel Good" feat. Cee Lo Green
I guess you could say this counts as a post-mortem break-up song, but it's so party-friendly with its super catchy chorus sung by the hook-champ Cee Lo, you barely notice.

"Billionaire" feat. Bruno Mars
This is the first official single off the album. A summer anthem for all the budding entrepreneurs in L.A., N.Y., and all over. With singer-songwriter-producer Bruno Mars singing the chorus, it has a Caribbean reggae vibe. I'm not sure why, but I feel like it so could be topped off with a female voice--maybe Alicia Keys or Estelle. But I really like the video. Instead of showing him acquire hundreds of useless items to denote his wealth, he goes around doing good deeds: giving a frustrated skateboarder a new board, buying a struggling musician's music after a day of rejections, giving his car to a hitchhiker, bringing more beer to a dry beach party, and giving a graffiti artist a much-needed extra can of paint.

"Need You"
It's the only rock song I liked on the album, probably cause it's more pop rock. It's about reopening your heart after having to lock because of heartbreak. I know. I know. I said it wasn't really a breakup album, but honestly it could be worse. Instead of just saying the line "I'm tired of laying low, let's give the world a show," he could've said...her name. lol

"After Midnight"
I like to think of this as his "I Gotta Feeling"-track, just not as annoying. It's a perfect party song.

ALBUM REVIEW: Hanson's "Shout It Out"

First off, while I, like millions of other people, sang "Mmmbop" for days upon days in '96. However, I did not have them plastered all over my walls; I did not pick a favorite; and I did not buy all of their albums. The first time I listened to a Hanson album was two weeks ago, after I saw the video for "Thinking 'Bout Something." And I don't know if they've evolved or not, but I'm liking what I'm hearing.

So you get an idea of what they sound like, I'll compare them to a few of my favorite artists:

"Waiting for This"
As upbeat and slappy-happy as the Jonas Brothers.

"Give a Little"
Here the boys get sexy—no worries, they're ALL legal now—with a Robin Thicke meets Jason Mraz crooning voice.

"Make it Out Alive"
Michael Buble's big-band melody mixed with the Jonas Brothers' vibe.

"And I Waited"
Lead by the youngest bro Zack, it has the scorned sound of Maroon 5 and Rob Thomas.

"Use Me Up"
This is my favorite ballad on the album, also sung by Zack. It sort of reminds me of the deep anguish in Gavin DeGraw's "Waterfall." [Just a side note, if Zack wasn't already married with children at 24, I would lock him and Taylor Swift in a studio to crack out a couple love songs.]

FILM NEWS: "Carrie Diaries" Adaptation, Miley as "Tank Girl," "Skins" Film, and more

• Looks like the winner of the Transformers 3 hot chick role is Victoria's Secret model slash Jason Statham's girlfriend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. There was a lot of press surrounding this casting as though it were of the same caliber as a Bond girl. Hopefully, it won't boil down to 10 minutes of screen time and 4 lines.

• Since Sex and the City 2 didn't perform as well as expected, producers are looking to adapt Candace Bushnell's young adult series "The Carrie Diaries." I bet you a mil, they ask Blake Lively to star. *sigh* I would be psyched, but that series excludes the other ladies, and they're 75% of the fun. Plus, older Samantha is a pioneer in feminism, but teenage Samantha would just be a skank. lol

• Looks like Jeremy Renner's (Hurt Locker) next high profile project won't be a drama, but a superhero flick. He's rumored to have been cast as Hawkeye in The Avengers.

• "Community" comedian Donald Glover is interested in playing Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

• And in other superhero news, now that they've cast James McAvoy as young Xavier in the X-Men: First Class film, there are rumors that Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) may play young Cyclops.

• John Cusack's latest project, the thriller Jack, reminds me of History of Violence, except, I'm sure, less sexy. He'll play a serial killer who gets amnesia and has to decide what to do next after he starts remembering his previous life.

• It is truly heartbreaking that Miley Cyrus is in talks to star in the remake of 90s cult-classic Tank Girl. "The punk-influenced comic follows the surreal and often absurd adventures of a young tank-driving woman and her mutant kangaroo boyfriend. With a bounty on her head and a penchant for random acts of sex, drug use and violence, the girl who sets out on a series of misadventures." Hopefully the creators, who were unhappy with the previous adaptation and are eager to have major creative control this time around, won't settle for a teen queen. If they're staying true to the comic, her fans won't even be allowed in without parental supervision. It'll tank--pun intended. If the producers want to go young, I'd suggest Ellen Page. If they want to be age-appropriate, they should convince Sarah Michelle Gellar to come back to the badass side and stop cowering in B-grade scary movies. For the bumbling sidekick, Alexis Bledel, Emily Blunt or Emma Stone could be good.

• I'm ecstatic to announce that the fan-favorite British teen series "Skins" is getting adapted into a film. So far Dev Patel (Anwar, Slumdog Millionaire and The Last Airbender) and Nicholas Hoult (Tony, A Single Man and Clash of the Titans) have agreed to reprise their roles. Of course many fans are most interested in the casting of the characters who had cliffhanger plot lines, like Sid who went all the way to New York to see Cassie, Jal who was left pregnant with a tragically-deceased Chris' baby, and Maxxie and Anwar who skipped college. I really hope they find a way to bring Chris back, but most of all I hope Sid and Cassie have got their shit together. lol Of course, if they did, it wouldn't be "Skins."

• Renee Zellweger is so hard-up for work that she not only had to buy the rights to a novel in order to star in a film, but she chose one that sounds like a cheap version of Sex and the City. In Brantly Martin's Pillage, "four best friends living in Manhattan rebel against their dead-end lives by searching for the perfect party in the downtown nightlife scene." Isn't she kind of old to be hunting for a party? Hmm, according to reports, so far she's just producing. Here's hoping she'll be wise enough to cast a few twentysomethings. Hey, maybe she could help revive Lindsay Lohan's career. I mean, if anyone knows about dead-end lives and hunting for a party, she certainly does.

• ohhhh snap!! Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell are in negotiations to make a sequel to Tango & Cash! lol It's been 20 years and I STILL use "FUBAR"!!! For those of you youngins who are out of the loop, that was a buddy cop film about two rival cops who were both so good at their job that criminals plotted to take them out by framing them and sending them to a prison where most of the criminals they put away resided. FUBAR is an acronym for what resulted, getting Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition! In truth, they didn't, but they certainly received a disturbing amount of abuse before rescuing themselves and taking down the bad guys. I'm not sure what a sequel would entail, but if you watch this trailer, you, like I, will not be in the least bit concerned:

TV NEWS: "Lost" DVD Extras, "Alias" Reboot, and more

• For fans who still feel unsatisfied, the upcoming Complete Series box-set for "Lost" will include a 12-14 minute scene between the time when Hurley became the island's protector and the end of the series.

• In the wake of "Lost" ending, "Flash Forward" being canceled, and "V" being ABC's last cult-type intense drama, the network is actually considering rebooting "Alias." Really? It's only been four years. That's like remaking The Hangover. It JUST happened. According to reports, this reboot will not have the same complex mythology as its underlying theme and JJ Abrams, the creator, will not be involved. So basically they'll be toting it as an "Alias" reboot, but it's actually just a run-of-the-mill spy series. Add it onto the pile: "Covert Affairs," "Burn Notice," "Undercovers," "Human Target," etcetera, etcetera.

• Speaking of "Flash Forward," it looks like its star Joseph Fiennes is returning to period pieces, joining Starz's upcoming 2011 series "Camelot." He'll play Merlin, Eva Green (Casino Royale) will play the powerful sorceress Morgana, Jamie Campbell Bower (Sweeney Todd and Twilight) will play Arthur, and Tamsin Egerton (St. Trinian's) will play Guinevere. I wonder if fans of Syfy's "Merlin" will watch.

Diane Keaton and Ellen Page will join the cavalcade of prestigious actors who are turning to the small tube for steady work. Both have signed on for HBO's new series "Tilda," a comedy about a "powerful female online Hollywood journalist with a no-holds-barred style" and a "morally conflicted creative assistant." Soooo it's like Devil Wears Prada, except the frivolous journalism is celeb-related instead of fashion-related. I'm not sure why, but I feel like they could both do better. But at least Page is trying something new and less indie.

Julia Stiles is also jumping into television soon. The creators of "Dexter" are eager to include her in the fifth season for a top secret role.
