FILM TOPIC: Brad Pitt Has Never Saved the World
As I was watching World War Z last night, I realized something pretty monumental: Brad Pitt has never saved the world before. He's turning 50 this December and in the span of his 30+ years as a leading male hearthrob, he has not saved the world once. He has played heroes before: Lieutenant Aldo Raine in Inglourious Basterds, a spy in Mr. & Mrs. Smith and Spy Game, and Achilles in Troy, but never has he saved the world. I thought it impossible. It's practically a rite of passage for an A-list actor. Get the girl. Check. Come up against a formidable villain. Check. Play ugly or against type. Check. Save the world. ...?
Will Smith has saved the world five times (Independence Day, Men in Black 1-3, and I, Robot). Nicholas Cage, four (Ghost Rider 1-2, Knowing, and The Sorcerer's Apprentice). Tom Cruise, three (Mission: Impossible II, War of the Worlds, and Oblivion). Ben Affleck (Armageddon), George Clooney (Batman & Robin), and Denzel Washington (The Book of Eli), all at least once. How has Pitt only achieved this feat in his golden years. Even his wife, Angelina Jolie (Tomb Raider 1 & 2), has saved the world. Twice.
He made me wonder though who else hasn't yet. Johnny Depp, Mark Wahlberg, and surprisingly, Matt Damon. His first time will be this summer with Elysium.
