Golden Compass was #1, but it only lured in $26 mil. Limited releases Atonement and Grace is Gone did moderately well. Last week's release Awake dropped from #2 to #9 with a measly $11 mil. Enchanted only fell to #2 and is up to $84 mil, while holiday movies This Christmas and Fred Claus take #3 and #4. Beowulf drops to #5 with a substantial $76 mil.
This week you've got a choice between the scifi thriller I Am Legend, the kid-magnet Alvin and the Chipmunks, and the indies Juno, The Kite Runner, Youth without Youth, and Perfect Holiday.
