MUSIC: Favorite NEW Artists of 2007

Here are my favorite new artists of the year and the reasons why you should give them a try:

Paolo Nutini is a 20-year-0ld Scottish Italian that has been making the rounds worldwide with his indie rock album These Streets. Ever since the debut of his single "New Shoes" in March, he's gotten recognition from "TRL," performed for Live Earth and "The Tonight Show," and two of his songs have appeared on primetime television shows.

James Morrison is an amazing UK import who is basically the seriously sick lab experiment mutation of Justin Timberlake, Gavin DeGraw, JC Chasez (that's right, 2 N'syncer's), John Mayer, and Michael Jackson. His raspy voice and inspiring lyrics will have you rediscovering yourself during a daydream. Check out his album Undiscovered.

Kat de Luna is an R&B and Latin artist born in the Bronx and raised in the Dominican Republic. Her first single, "Whine Up" featuring Elephant Man sounded like a mixture of Rihanna (reggae vibe) and Nina Sky (vocals and Spanglish). Although she could one day be for Dominicans what J.Lo is for Puerto Ricans, what sets her apart from the rest of the summer song mavens is her vocal ability, which she hasn't even showcased yet. She's documented as having vocal prowess that could easily be compared to Mariah Carey. Check out her album 9 Lives.

Plain White T’s is a Chicago-based pop/punk band that finally got their big break with the Grammy-nominated "Hey there Delilah" after 4 albums and 10 years. They've been thoroughly embraced by all ages, appearing on Nickelodeon's "iCarly" and ABC Family's "Greek," and are on tour with equally beloved bands: Gym Class Heroes, Fall Out Boy, and Cute is What we Aim For.

Paramore is a Tennessee-based pop punk band, started by the Farro brothers, Zac (drums) and Josh (lead guitar), who then added Jeremy (bass) and Hayley (lead vocals). Riot! is their second album with record label Fueled by Ramen. Once their video "Misery Business" hit TRL it practically created an earthquake. Not only were they the featured artist plastered on the TRL windows for a couple months, but they will be performing at MTV's New Years' Eve party and have been nominated for a Grammy in the category of Best New Artist.

Sarah Bareilles is a Cali girl who can sing, write, and play the piano. Opening for Mika and Maroon 5 this year, she surprised a lot of concert-goers. The one track that stuck off her fourth album Little Voice was "Love Song," which was the #1 downloaded song on iTunes for a while. Her down-to-earth style and beautifully written songs cater to many TV shows and films, so you'll be hearing a lot more of her.
