FILM: New in Theaters - 6/27/08

I don't know about you guys, but I'm watching Wanted this weekend. I am soooooo excited!! I love Timur Bekmambetov. Ever since I saw the trailer for Day Watch and immediately rented it, as well as it's prequel Night Watch, I've loved this Russian director. His imagination is sick!! You'll see if you go watch Wanted. The trailer in itself is a perfect example of the killer action scenes that'll be splashed all over the screen. Oh yeah, and Angelina Jolie is returning to her badass roots that she once cultivated with Mr. & Mr. Smith, Tomb Raider and Gone in Sixty Seconds before she went indie. Joining her are a few unexpected critically acclaimed actors, James McAvoy (Atonement) and Morgan Freeman. People are wondering if McAvoy is trying to pull a Matt Damon and straddle both sides of the business--indie and commercial--with his own personal action franchise. I, personally, just want to watch him squirm and then overcome his insecurities. It's my favorite part of the hero storyline: their evolution. His particular character must face the fact that his father was apart of an elite organization of assassins, and he must join them now to protect the world. Awesome!

For the children, there's the super cute lonesome robot Wall-E, who'll have kids mesmerized probably all weekend. It's the story of a clumsy trash-compactor who cleans up a deserted and destroyed Earth until he meets the robot of his dreams and embarks on an adventure with her. Awww. Expect a lot of robotic C3P0 sounds.

And for the indie lovers, there's the dark comedy Finding Amanda. Matthew Broderick plays the alcoholic uncle of a prostitute (Brittany Snow from Prom Night), who is trying to convince his niece to admit herself into rehab. Of course, this is like the pot calling the kettle black and it's going to be difficult. Especially, since he also has a gambling problem and he has to rip her from the grips of Sin City. Las Vegas baby!!!
