FILM: Sandler + Rogen + Apatow + ...Eric Bana

Back in Australia, Eric Bana got his start as a sketch comedian on his own show titled "Eric" (below). It wasn't until four years later that he made his move out to the U.S. and appeared in the ensemble war drama Black Hawk Down. It only took two years before Hollywood put its full force behind him, casting him in Hulk and Troy. They made him a character actor with a penchant for action drama. While he fell from grace in the eyes of Americans after the relentless mockery of Troy and its homosexual undertones, he attempted to win back their favor with more serious fare, like Munich, Lucky You, Romolus, my Father, and The Other Boleyn Girl. Although it was slow-going, he succeeded in his endeavor.

In December, we'll see him in the romantic adaptation of The Time Traveler's Wife. Next year, he'll star as the villainous Nero in the very much anticipated Star Trek film. Then he'll get serious again in the political thriller Factor X opposite Terrence Howard. It would seem that he's getting himself back on track, but not quite. He's not only going to stick to the genre he's known for this time around.

Judd Apatow's next project is actually a collaboration with the last generation's king of comedy who was just awarded, coincidentally, the Generation Award at the MTV Movie Awards, Adam Sandler. When I first heard of this meeting of the comedic minds, I thought they'd find some bizarre premise, as Sandler is prone to doing, i.e. Don't Mess with the Zohan. This project, however, is about stand-up comedians. Bana will not only play Leslie Mann's boyfriend, but a fellow comedian alongside Seth Rogen and Sandler. We shall see the newly christened funny man in theaters next summer. Until then, enjoy a few of his skits from his 90s Australian show "Eric" HERE!

UPDATE: Jason Schwartzman (Rushmore & The Darjeeling Limited) is joining the cast as well.
