FILM: Saoirse Ronan in "The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle"

14-year-old Saoirse Ronan is taking Hollywood by storm. After her impressive performance in Atonement, Ronan has been a hot commodity around town. Not only is she starring in her own adventure film City of Ember this October and in Peter Jackson's The Lovely Bones next year, but she's just been tapped for the lead in the historical adventure The True Confessions of Charlotte Doyle, alongside Morgan Freeman and Pierce Brosnan.

The novel is about a wealthy 13-year-old girl who travels from England to Rhode Island with a mutinous crew in order to meet up with her family. Amidst the class struggles and frequent betrayals on board, Charlotte must ultimately choose which life she prefers: one among high class or at sea.

Looks like Dakota Fanning has some more competition. If Ronan's City of Ember does well, she'll have one-upped Fanning in being able to yo-yo between mature and younger audiences, which Abigail Breslin (Nim's Island and Kit Kittredge) has also failed in doing--on a blockbuster scale.
