TV: Showtime's 70s series "Studio"

Because of the success of the period drama "Mad Men" and "Swingtown," Showtime is pulling together a new series about the 70s era of disco, drugs and excess called "Studio," in reference to Studio 54. It will focus on the club's co-founder Steve Rubell and chronicle the months before its grand opening in April 1977. The producers are adamant in saying that it'll be fictional, not autobiographical, taking a look at the affect the 70s had on NYC with Studio 54 as one of its by-products and exploring the decade's politics and pop culture.

Chad Hodge ("Runaway" and "Tru Calling") will be writing and Bryan Singer (Superman Returns) is in talks to direct the pilot.
