People have been buzzing about NBC's "Kings" being cancelled. It wasn't.
For all of you who love it as much as I do, rest easy...for now. They've just moved the series from Sunday to Saturday, but they're saying things like "the remaining episodes" will air on that day, as in what's left of the series. That's not good. They claim it's because it's a bad lead-in for "Celebrity Apprentice," causing it to have low ratings. Um, okay so it only has 1.5 million viewers, but that's no reason to blame it for "Celebrity Apprentice" having low ratings. Maybe it's because—brace yourself—it's stupid.
Which series do you think "Kings" should be paired up with to get a better lead-in and boost its ratings? I think, since "Friday Night Lights" has finished its season, they should pair up "Southland" and "Kings" on fridays—the boys vs. the girls (FOX's "Sarah Connor Chronicles" and "Dollhouse.").
Read a recap of the SERIES FINALE!
I think that Kings should be paired up with Southland on Thursday nights.
ReplyDeleteI also think that Celebrity Apprentice should just go away. Don't we already have reality shows full of washed up celebrities anyways?
In fact I believe that all "reality" shows should just go away. Don't we get enough reality in our own lives?
i dont know but love this show and its amazing.. ive been raving about it cuz i just found it on my on demand and am wicked into it.. they mid seasoned it and didnt advertise well for what it really is.. its nbc's fault.. they need to revisit WHAT THEY CAN DO BETTER before they lose a good show!
ReplyDeleteAWESOME show. I was hooked from episode one. NBC better get it together. I say pair it with Southland- or better yet- HBO should pick it up and give us more!
ReplyDeleteNah, Vapid acting and scripts. Good riddance
ReplyDeletei disagree, I think the acting is spot on for the theme its portraying. Excellent show
ReplyDeletethis is an excellent show, I loved it, I didn't think it would be this good when I saw the previews and just watched the first episode, I was pleased by the acting and really glad that we had something totally different on tv. I am tired of these reality shows, they kill shows that have potential to be great, and you can't just cancel shows after five episode and expect it to build audience. I am starting to hate these Networks now, hopefully HBO picks it up if it is totally canceled, I would certainly order HBO to watch this show, this show is about the characters, and every show that is character based is going to take some audience to build up, this show deserves a prime time slot, not a saturday night slot.
ReplyDeleteThis is the best new show I have seen in a couple years. I hope they give this a real chance. The writing is well done and acting is top notch. NBC you want to keep this one arround!!!!
ReplyDeleteOf course NBC cancelled the show. TV viewers cannot handle anything more stimulating than washed up "Celebrity Apprentice, or Deal or No Deal! Gee no wonder cable shows get more viewers, they don't think the public is stupid!
ReplyDeleteIn this modern "enlightened" age, a TVshow with a truly moral center has a tough time surviving as a lamb among wolves. That is what Kings is up against; a leftist secular society that shuns all things spiritual in general, and Judeo-Christian specifically. What is really remarkable about this show is that it openly uses the word and concept of "God" in a spiritual and non-negative Judeo-Pre-Christian Old Testament application rather than as a scapegoat of the far left who besmirch the same with every word they breathe. Given that sad reality, it was only a matter of time before the head honchos at NBC let KINGS slowly die rather than promote it to more success as they could have given, in all likelihood, they had no idea what they were actually getting when they green-lighted this series (beyond perhaps the concept of the show being a "different kind of television). A positive image of "God" in popular media in this day of leftist secularism is a hot potato. NBC didn't want to burn their fingers, so they simply let it die. Very sad indeed.
ReplyDeleteI finally decided to give Kings a chance as was something I might like and loved it. Southland is also very good and they could pair them up as others have mentioned. Too many reality shows for people who never have to think about other than themselves. Get a life people and watch something on TV with some story line once. You might enjoy it.

ReplyDeleteCry all you like about the liberal media and how your particular belief system is persecuted by the faceless majority, the show was in all likelihood canceled because it's not generating its required advertising revenue.
I think that if anything, a cable channel picking this up is the most likely outcome. I could see SyFy as the most likely choice, or perhaps, as a previous commentator said, HBO.
HBO picking this series up would be a godsend and save whats turning into a really good character driven show.
ReplyDeleteSadly the moronic masses are too used to dumbeddown eye candy shows and cant recognize solid tv when its on offer.
I really love this show and look forward to watching it each week. It seems like right when I get into a show it's cancelled!
ReplyDeleteI will be so crushed if this show gets canceled, I Havnt enjoyed a series this much since Lost came out. The characters are amazing and the moral struggles are so deep that I cannot wait to see what twists await us. The quality of the show is simply stunning, the visual language, the color, the overall design is incredible. Its time for good television to make a reappearance.
ReplyDeleteI agree with the previous comment 100%. The only other show I watch on t.v. is Lost. Eveything else on t.v sucks! Maybe they should move the show to cnbc since I think it will appeal more to that crowd anyway. Hope HBO picks it up as well.
ReplyDeleteKings has great story line, writing and acting. It has got to be given a chance by a smart network somewhere that recognizes quality TV.
ReplyDeleteStupid to cancel King, it has great dialouge, story content. Insipid are the reality shows, we have more than enough reality in our lives inside and outside the tube bbbuuutttknow...
ReplyDeletesome idiots in the corporate offices of nbc know better what we the people want, and we just have to lump it! I am getting weary of falling in love with a program then having it yanked.
Kings is one of the best new shows I have seen. I'm sick of lame reality stuff cluttering up the set. This show has a plot and great characters. First show on years I have taken the time to even comment on. If NBC is too short sighted to see the potential then HBO should pick it up and I will stop watching NBC!
ReplyDeleteI don't think they should move Southland to a shitty friday night spot. Kings was ok but it's doomed and I don't want it taking Southland with it. I'm glad Southland got renewed for 13 episodes...Kings...well, after they finish the episodes this summer...I'm sure it's done.

I was disappointed when I heard that Kings had in fact been cancelled (posting this on May 22). I really liked this show - it's modern-day retelling of the Saul vs. David story, its grand sets and sort of movie-like cinematic look. Ian McShane is pretty good too.
ReplyDeleteI believe that shows should be allowed to stand or fall on their own merits, not because they are placed before or after something else. No wonder 80 to 90 percent of what's on network TV sucks. Placement and appealing to the lowest common denominator.
I'm hoping that this series eventually comes out somewhere on DVD so I can buy it and watch it all - it was on at times when it was hard to catch it
If you love this show as much as I did and want to act upon this show being cancelled please join the cause for this show to be picked up or put back on. By joining this facebook group that wants to SAVE the Tv show KINGS. http://apps.facebook.com/causes/303952/3389310?m=c20bb5a8
ReplyDeleteIf You could make A video of yourself saying why you think it’s a disappointment of canceling the show or why you disagree or How much you loved the show please post it on the cause or send it to my email Ashleyw1423@yahoo.com I will be sending this to the network companies.
This was one of the best shows on the air since Band of Brothers. Hopefully another station picks this up if NBC drops it, one with intgrity and a budget. Why can't this move to thursday where ER was? I hope your listening cable/HBO, because this would be a good choice to pick up (just don't make it too racy, HBO, i do like Trueblood and sex/violence/crude humor is great, but Kings should be a little more wholesome).
ReplyDeleteI am with a lot of people, I am so sick of reality shows. Really is these reality anything but people making complete ***** of themselves. Kings is a show that you can sit down and watch and look forward to the next one. If NBC cancels this show it will be a big mistake. HBO will have a lot of new customers if they pick this show up.
ReplyDeleteTo tell you the truth I am surprised that this show is not getting the amount of viewers that it deserves. It sticks out with a complex story and complex characters, and all people want to see is the poached animal on Donald Trump's head.

ReplyDeleteGreat show. I hope HBO picks it up and makes the script more R-rated. Huge potential with this cast, but NBC was the wrong home for it.
ReplyDeleteSolid acting, David Shepard character has huge room for growth. I'd like to know where the story is leading. The evil uncle is done well, the Oedipal undertones, the homosexual prince, and the forbidden love affair are all just getting interesting. Shame the scheduler at NBC screwed up. Hopefully, HBO recognizes a winner.
Kings is the best show by far on T.V. right now. If NBC moved it to a week night and paired it up with a similar drama i guarantee it would be a huge success. It has great acting and an excellent plot. Network T.V. doesn't know how to keep good shows instead they make really bad and mind numbing realty crap that somehow has success. Hopefully some miracle happens in NBC and kings continues.
ReplyDeleteAbsolutely agree that this show should be saved...not enough intelligent tv anymore, what with self-absorbed tripe of reality tv. the dumming down of tv is getting scary. what can we do to encourage this show to stay?
ReplyDeleteThis show is by far the most enjoyable show I've watched on T.V., ever. To cancel such a show is boardering mental retardation. I'd especially hope that after the Season/Series Finale, they'd reconsider.
ReplyDeleteWe have to stand up for the show! Lets do something about it!
ReplyDelete"In this modern 'enlightened' age, a TVshow (sic) with a truly moral center has a tough time surving as a lamb among the wolves. This is what Kings is up against; a leftist secular society that shuns all things spirtual in general..."
ReplyDeleteBull-pucky! I'm as flaming liberal as one can get, and I loved the show. The real threat here isn't the moral center of the show (the left is often at least as moral as the right... generall moreso... we're not the ones sacking the poor to pay for the excess of the rich, starting wars, etc).
No, the real threat isn't even specifically a right/left thing, it's an intelligent/stupid thing. The vast wasteland that is television is largely a response to the vast wasteland that is our demand for quality.. or lack thereof. When many, sometimes most of the top 25 shows are vapid (and, especially, very low cost) "reality" shows, an expensive scripted drama has an inherent disadvantage.
But this note is certainly part of the problem of the "culture war", and how things are seen by the other side. Most people on the left are not frightened, revolted, put off, or in any other way bothered by ideas that may not be our own.. that's why 95% of scientists self identify as "left or left leaning". Kings had its flaws, but for me and my son, it was appointment television (ok, it was sometimes an appointement with an HD-PVR, but we never missed an episode, despite being very intelligent flaming liberals).
The right, on the other hand, is inherently threatened by ideas that stray from the dogma that supports them... that's why you can blame this on the left with a straight face. But, in fact, nothing could be further from the truth.
This show is GREAT! i was hooked to it from the first episode. NBC did not advertise it well enough. And these reality shows should not keep taking over television. Im tired of watching old celebrities trying to get back their fame. Kings is has a wonderful story line and deserves another season. HBO PLEASE PICK IT UP and give the faithful viewers a good show to watch!!
ReplyDeletei hope HBO or sifi picks it up networks are bean counters and to busy lineing there pockets to see a show that given a chance would take off
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing show. I hated that it was moved to Saturdays because I did not have the time to watch it. So every Sunday I would watch the show online. It should have been placed at a better time slot. I think we should send a letter/email to NBC or all other networks. Send a picture of KINGS FLAG and type SAVE KINGS. If we all do this “together mountains can move”. Let’s all spread the swarm of butterflies.
