TRAILER: "Gamer": Gerard Butler, Michael C. Hall, & Milo Ventimiglia

Gerard Butler stars in Gamer, a sci-fi action thriller, that reminds me of Death Race. Both films involve prisoners participating in a sport/mission for the amusement and profit of others. The warden in this film is a Southernized Michael C. Hall ("Dexter"). It takes place in a futuristic world where humans can control other humans in multi-player games. One popular game is called Slayers, where players get to control prisoners dressed in army gear as they try to survive a war zone. Logan Lerman's (3:10 to Yuma and "Jack & Bobby") character has full control over Butler's, but Butler's character has other plans. The rules state that if a prisoner survives 30 sessions, he'll be granted freedom. Butler is up to 27, a feat no other prisoner has achieved, and Hall doesn't want to lose his star player. From the trailer, I think Hall kidnaps Butler's wife (Amber Valletta from Transporter 2) and puts her in the game, making his plan of simply winning the game not enough. He begs Lerman to set him free, so he can control his own actions and take Hall down. I don't know where Milo Ventimiglia ("Heroes"), John Leguizamo, rapper Ludacris, or Kyra Sedgwick ("The Closer") fit in, but it's sure to be an action-packed, 300-meets-Black Hawk Down kind of film, especially since the boys behind Crank (Mark Neveldine and Brian Taylor) are writing and directing.

Release Date: Sept. 4th
