FILM NEWS: "Carrie Diaries" Adaptation, Miley as "Tank Girl," "Skins" Film, and more

• Looks like the winner of the Transformers 3 hot chick role is Victoria's Secret model slash Jason Statham's girlfriend Rosie Huntington-Whiteley. There was a lot of press surrounding this casting as though it were of the same caliber as a Bond girl. Hopefully, it won't boil down to 10 minutes of screen time and 4 lines.

• Since Sex and the City 2 didn't perform as well as expected, producers are looking to adapt Candace Bushnell's young adult series "The Carrie Diaries." I bet you a mil, they ask Blake Lively to star. *sigh* I would be psyched, but that series excludes the other ladies, and they're 75% of the fun. Plus, older Samantha is a pioneer in feminism, but teenage Samantha would just be a skank. lol

• Looks like Jeremy Renner's (Hurt Locker) next high profile project won't be a drama, but a superhero flick. He's rumored to have been cast as Hawkeye in The Avengers.

• "Community" comedian Donald Glover is interested in playing Peter Parker in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.

• And in other superhero news, now that they've cast James McAvoy as young Xavier in the X-Men: First Class film, there are rumors that Aaron Johnson (Kick-Ass) may play young Cyclops.

• John Cusack's latest project, the thriller Jack, reminds me of History of Violence, except, I'm sure, less sexy. He'll play a serial killer who gets amnesia and has to decide what to do next after he starts remembering his previous life.

• It is truly heartbreaking that Miley Cyrus is in talks to star in the remake of 90s cult-classic Tank Girl. "The punk-influenced comic follows the surreal and often absurd adventures of a young tank-driving woman and her mutant kangaroo boyfriend. With a bounty on her head and a penchant for random acts of sex, drug use and violence, the girl who sets out on a series of misadventures." Hopefully the creators, who were unhappy with the previous adaptation and are eager to have major creative control this time around, won't settle for a teen queen. If they're staying true to the comic, her fans won't even be allowed in without parental supervision. It'll tank--pun intended. If the producers want to go young, I'd suggest Ellen Page. If they want to be age-appropriate, they should convince Sarah Michelle Gellar to come back to the badass side and stop cowering in B-grade scary movies. For the bumbling sidekick, Alexis Bledel, Emily Blunt or Emma Stone could be good.

• I'm ecstatic to announce that the fan-favorite British teen series "Skins" is getting adapted into a film. So far Dev Patel (Anwar, Slumdog Millionaire and The Last Airbender) and Nicholas Hoult (Tony, A Single Man and Clash of the Titans) have agreed to reprise their roles. Of course many fans are most interested in the casting of the characters who had cliffhanger plot lines, like Sid who went all the way to New York to see Cassie, Jal who was left pregnant with a tragically-deceased Chris' baby, and Maxxie and Anwar who skipped college. I really hope they find a way to bring Chris back, but most of all I hope Sid and Cassie have got their shit together. lol Of course, if they did, it wouldn't be "Skins."

• Renee Zellweger is so hard-up for work that she not only had to buy the rights to a novel in order to star in a film, but she chose one that sounds like a cheap version of Sex and the City. In Brantly Martin's Pillage, "four best friends living in Manhattan rebel against their dead-end lives by searching for the perfect party in the downtown nightlife scene." Isn't she kind of old to be hunting for a party? Hmm, according to reports, so far she's just producing. Here's hoping she'll be wise enough to cast a few twentysomethings. Hey, maybe she could help revive Lindsay Lohan's career. I mean, if anyone knows about dead-end lives and hunting for a party, she certainly does.

• ohhhh snap!! Sylvester Stallone and Kurt Russell are in negotiations to make a sequel to Tango & Cash! lol It's been 20 years and I STILL use "FUBAR"!!! For those of you youngins who are out of the loop, that was a buddy cop film about two rival cops who were both so good at their job that criminals plotted to take them out by framing them and sending them to a prison where most of the criminals they put away resided. FUBAR is an acronym for what resulted, getting Fucked Up Beyond All Recognition! In truth, they didn't, but they certainly received a disturbing amount of abuse before rescuing themselves and taking down the bad guys. I'm not sure what a sequel would entail, but if you watch this trailer, you, like I, will not be in the least bit concerned:

  1. Since when did they actually choose her? She just wants to play Tank Girl, from my understanding..
