The Water Horse: Legend of the Deep
A little boy discovers a creature and tries to keep it as a pet. Soon he learns that it's a water horse and soon it grows to an unmanageable size. With the help of an adult friend he transports the creature to the loch (or what we Americans refer to as a lake). Unfortunately, fishermen discover it and the boy must find a way to save it. Thus, we have the origin story of the Loch Ness monster.
Alien vs. Predator: Requiem
If you've seen the others in the series, you really shouldn't need much incentive to see this one. I believe the gist of this crossover action film is that the Aliens fight the Predators for the title of the best warrior. This time they choose a small town to battle it out in and the residents have to figure out a way to survive...which means that they'll all most likely die.
The Great Debaters
Denzel Washington directs this drama about a Texan professor who must fight for the academic rights of African American students in the 30s. When the Caucasians try to stop him and wrongfully arrest him, the black community rises up against them with the help of a character that Forrest Whitaker plays. His story travels around America, inspiring Harvard to invite his team to be the first negro college to debate against a white college. It'll be broadcast all over America and make history. Needless to say, with Washington at the helm, it'll be inspirational and controversial.
The Bucket List
Jack Nicholson and Morgan Freeman play two terminally ill men who decide that before they die from cancer they will fulfill all the desires they've written on their wish list. And on the journey they become the best of friends.
There Will Be Blood
This is a story about a Texas prospector (Daniel Day-Lewis) who makes his living by acquiring valuable land with his young son by his side. One day he meets a religious man (Paul Dano) inhabiting an oil-filled piece of land who refuses to sell. But this prospector doesn't take no for an answer. It's a terrifying look into the eyes of greed and the black soul of a capitalist American.
Persepolis
This comic adaptation is a political animated film about the Islamic revolution and the life of a precocious girl who lived through it.
