Even though studios have failed to mimic the intensity of the Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter hysteria with Golden Compass, The Seeker: Dark is Rising, and Eragon, they aren't discouraged in producing more fantasy/magic related adaptations.
Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan
An orphan named Will trains to become an apprentice ranger so he can join a league of warriors who protect the mythical kingdom of Araluen. If you've read Harry Potter, you know that this is very similar to the idea of Harry wanting to become an Auror and joining the Order of the Phoenix, or even Anakin's ambition to become a Jedi warrior in Star Wars. Building on such a small aspect of these sagas is a great idea, if done well. And since Paul Haggis (Casino Royale) is in talks to direct, there's hope that it won't suck.Ranger's Apprentice by John Flanagan
Michael Gondry Project
The director behind Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and the upcoming Be Kind Rewind is working on a story about a group of kids who invent a type of water that allows them to hear music when they drink it. Leave it to Gondry to make water trippy.
