FILM: New Comic Adaptations

Graphic novel The Boys follows a CIA squad who keep superheroes in check in case they get out of line, and if they do, they dispose of them. The twist on the superhero genre is that these caped crusaders have all the flaws of real people, hence the government agency that watches over them. Can't wait to see who's cast.

David Fincher (Zodiac) will direct the horror romance Black Hole about a group of teens who are infected with an incurable sexually transmitted disease called the "teen plague" or "the bug," giving them horrific physical deformities and making them social outcasts. Talk about an after school special for the ages.

Leonardo DiCaprio will produce the anime/manga classic Akira. The original story was set in futuristic post-nuclear war "New Tokyo" in 2019, but DiCaprio puts a spin on it by moving it to "New Manhattan," a destroyed city rebuilt by the Japanese. It'll follows a teen biker gang member who is subjected to a government experiment that gives him supernatural powers and the gang leader who will save him. Director Ruairi Robinson (The Silent City) wants to do it as a two-part epic, newcomer Gary Whitta will write, and it's slated for a Summer 2009 release. It's rumored that DiCaprio and Joseph Gordon-Levitt will play the lead parts.

The cast of X-Men Origins: Wolverine gets bigger and bigger every week. The last addition to the gang was Dominic Monaghan ("Lost") and newcomer Daniel Henney. Monaghan will play Barnell, "a mysterious former military ally of Logan with the power to harness energy and electricity," and Henney will play Agent Zero, "a fellow member of the Weapon X program and an expert tracker with lethal, mutant-enhanced marksman skills." Other cast members include: Liev Schreiber, Ryan Reynolds, Taylor Kitsch ("Friday Night Lights") who is playing Gambit, Danny Huston (30 Days of Night), rapper will.i.am, and Lynn Collins (The Number 23).

Speaking of additions to an ensemble cast, Street Fighter, starring Kristin Kreuk ("Smallville"), has added on Michael Clarke Duncan (The Green Mile), Chris Klein (American Pie), and Rick Yune (The Fast and the Furious). While Kreuk is playing the lead Chun-Li, Duncan will play Balrog, Klein will play Nash, and Yune will play the mystical Gen. Other cast members include: Moon Bloodgood ("Journeyman"), asian actress Cheng Pei Pei, Black Eyed Peas musician Taboo, and Singapore's Edmund Chen. Personally, after seeing that Klein was cast, I sense that they've ruined it. He's so cheesy.
