When I was a kid, I used to love this 1989 romantic musical called Teen Witch, where a geek manifests powers after receiving a magical amulet from an old gypsy who says that the teen is a descendant of the Salem witches. Once she gets the hang of her powers, she becomes the most popular girl in school--hence the song, "Most Popular Girl"--and scores the hottest guy. I watched it again a couple of months ago and realized how horrible it actually is. Not only does she stick with the jock who only acknowledges her after she seduces him with her magic, but she sticks to her new makeover instead of reverting like in Mean Girls.
United Artists, however, are planning on remaking it with Ashley Tisdale (High School Musical) in the lead. The original lead was Robyn Lively, who happens to be Blake Lively's ("Gossip Girl") big sister. I'm glad she didn't follow in her sister's footsteps, but I also hope they modernize the ending. The best part of the film, however, is when she puts a spell on her best friend so she has enough courage to ask out some Paul Rudd-Matt LeBlanc-looking beatboxer and she starts to rap-flirt. It's awesome! You've gotta watch it. lol To see if you might be interested in watching the remake, watch the original trailer:
