FILM: Casey Affleck is "The Kind One"

No, I'm not differentiating between Casey and his big bro Ben. The Kind One is an adaptation that Ridley Scott (American Gangster) is planning on directing with Casey in the lead. Normally, I try not to report casting news for movies that'll show up on screen in two years unless the actor is well-known or up-and-coming or the plot is extremely interesting, but after reading the plot to this one I got excited for a whole other reason. I saw Casey in The Assassination of Jesse James last month and he was phenomenal, engaging, and mesmerizing. He brought psycho to a whole new level. I used to think Cillian Murphy (Red Eye) was the end-all-and-be-all of actors who have the keen ability to portray quiet-but-deadly murderers. Then Casey blew him out of the water. He made his murderous character, not only creepy but, relatable.

Tom Epperson's period noir novel is "set in 1930s Los Angeles, and centers on an amnesiac who finds himself working for a mobster - a killer given the nickname 'the Kind One' - and falling in love with the thug's girlfriend." He has no memory, he's getting his hands dirty for a mob boss, and he's having an affair. I can't wait to see how he pulls it off.
