TRAILER: Going for "Blindness"

I'm not quite sure why Hollywood's suddenly interested in the fear of going blind, but you'd think they'd scrap it after the critics skewered Jessica Alba's The Eye and it floundered at the box office. I guess their solution was to get better actors and a better script.

In Fernando Meirelles' (The Constant Gardner) adaptation of Nobel Prize winner Jose Saramago's novel Blindness, an entire town goes blind except for the wife (Julianne Moore) of a doctor (Mark Ruffalo). Naturally, the government quarantines them to figure out the cause. But in order to care for her husband, the woman decides to pretend she's sick too. Chaos ensues within the facility, as a new social order is established. The "people learn to live in inexpressible filth, they commit acts of both unspeakable violence and amazing generosity that would have been unimaginable to them before the tragedy." It's essentially an ode to what it means to be human shown through the minds of a multi-cultural cast Moore, Ruffalo, Gael Garcia Bernal, Sandra Oh ("Grey's Anatomy"), Danny Glover, and Alice Braga (I Am Legend).

That being said, watch the chilling trailer. It'll have you seeing everything in a new light.
