FILM: New in Theaters - 6/01/08

The ladies of America rushed theaters--selling them out in Manhattan (and disrupting my f*ing day)--to put the movie version of the hit TV series Sex and the City at #1 with $56 mil, and shove Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull to #2 with $364 mil worldwide in just its second week. Horror movie The Strangers opened with $21 mil at #3. Iron Man is still holding strong at #4, grossing $505 mil worldwide after 5 weeks. The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian has nearly regained its two hundred million dollar budget, dropping to #5 with $167 mil worldwide after three weeks. Speed Racer, on the other hand, has only grossed $70.5 mil at #8 after a month--not even close to its $120 mil mark.
The romantic comedies are on their way out. What Happens in Vegas has actually managed to make $143 mil worldwide at #6; Baby Mama will soon bail out with $56 mil at #7; Made of Honor is up to $68.5 mil worldwide at #9; and Forgetting Sarah Marshall is about to take a bow at #10 with $84 mil after 7 weeks. Making their exits from the box office are the indie The Visitor with a respectable $5 mil and Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanamo Bay with $38 mil.
Next week, Adam Sandler gets goofy with Don't Mess with the Zohan, kids everywhere will drop kick the box office when they bum-rush it for Kung Fu Panda, and indie lovers just might see Sean William Scott and John C. Reilly's black comedy The Promotion.
