FILM: Robert Downey Jr. saddles up against aliens

I guess there are no rules to sticking to one comic per lifetime, because Robert Downey Jr.'s considering a part in the sci-fi/western graphic novel, Cowboys & Aliens. Granted, it probably doesn't have the same sized fan base, but still...

The movie is about a turf war between Apache Indians and what Americans like to refer to as "settlers"--and what most people secretly refer to as "imperialists wearing cowboy and praire gear." If the costumed affair isn't complicated enough, aliens interrupt their little battle by crash landing in their city. The humans must join forces against them. It's supposedly an attempt to contrast the alien invasion with the American invasion--both antagonists possessing lofty ambitions of creating a civilization out of savage cultures with their technology. Interesting.

The writers of Iron Man and Children of Men, Mark Fergus and Hawk Ostby, are adapting the graphic novel.
