A dog, a cat, and a hamster embark on an adventure. I never thought I'd ever get to write those words.
Bolt is about a dog that lives an unusual canine life. He's the star of a TV show about a genetically enhanced dog that protects a girl named Penny after her father is kidnapped. The problem is that the dog that plays Bolt...well, he's a dog, so he doesn't know that it isn't real. He's like Bruce Willis' John McClane on four legs. That poses a serious problem, because in the last scene they film Penny is kidnapped and Bolt's character fails to save her. So after the director says cut and the cameras stop rolling, Bolt still tries to save her. He thinks that the villain of the movie, The Green-Eyed Man, who has a cat as a sidekick, kidnapped her. Unfortunately for his handler, he escapes from the set into the city. Discovering a stray cat that looks just like the villain's pet, he ties his leash to her and comically drags her everywhere he goes as his prisoner and informant. Then he encounters an adventure-hungry hamster trapped in a clear plastic ball who wants to help. Together they go on an adventure and Bolt slowly comes to the realization that he can't actually jump over a helicopter and emerge from a ball of fire...I hope.
John Travolta voices Bolt, while Miley Cyrus is Penny. The coolest part is that the story is written by a guy who wrote the best animated stories of the 90s, Chris Sanders (Lilo & Stitch). He did Mulan, The Lion King, Aladdin, and Beauty and the Beast. Watch the trailer:
