TV: Mary-Kate Olsen on "Samantha, Who?"

Whenever a show is struggling, producers tend to resort to stunt casting, like when Lindsay Lohan was cast as America Ferrara's high school bully on "Ugly Betty." But sometimes--even if your favorite show is struggling--you still don't want celebutards disrupting your viewing experience.

Samantha Who?, one of my favorite shows, came in as the #2 half-hour comedy with the best ratings last season behind "Two and a Half Men." But to bolster its success beyond critic appreciation, the producers have resorted to casting Mary-Kate Olsen for a guest spot where she'll play a young girl who reminds Sam of her former self. The more troubled half of the infamous twins did a pretty good job on "Weeds" last season as a pot-pushing fundamentalist, but can she be funny? Laughing at her is not the same as laughing at the things she says, but I'm willing to give her a shot.
