NBC's "Friday Night Lights" has just cut two players. The show, which suffers from low ratings, could be trying to minimize its budget. But producers are saying that its decision to drop two characters is purely for plot purposes.
Scott Porter (Jason Street) and Gaius Charles (Smash) are the seniors in the series and no longer have any ties to the high school atmosphere. But the writers do plan on giving them a 4-episode arc that will set them towards the next phase of their lives. Isn't Riggins a senior too? Hmm. I guess he can't go anywhere because he's in love with Lyla. Not that he has anywhere to go anyway.
But don't feel bad for these actors. Porter may have played a small part in this summer's bomb Speed Racer, but at least his other film Prom Night did well. And he has a part in the dramedy Rock On that also stars Vanessa Hudgens (High School Musical) and Lisa Kudrow. As for Charles, he'll soon be in the interracial drama Toe to Toe that will hopefully open more doors for him.
