FILM: Alex O'Loughlin & J.Lo, Bale & Wahlberg, and more

• Either Jennifer Lopez has hit rock bottom or Alex O'Loughlin ("Moonlight") is about to get a big break. He's been cast as the romantic lead in The Back-Up Plan, playing the guy Lopez falls for after she gets artificially inseminated. They should call it Bad Timing.
[lol Alright ladies, relax. I just meant that normally film actresses—good or bad—don't have TV actors as male leads. J.Lo used to get George Clooney and Matthew McConaughey as love interests, and now it seems you can't pay a film actor enough to star opposite her. That aside, I know Alex is a great actor. I loved him in "Moonlight" too.]

Christian Bale and Mark Wahlberg are rumored to be teaming up for the Bryan Singer thriller Prisoners. It's the story of a "small-town carpenter (Wahlberg) who butts heads with a young, brash detective (Bale) in charge of the investigation of his missing six-year-old daughter and her friend. The father is a Bible-reading, deer-hunting survivalist. The cop, meanwhile, can't wait to get to the city. Feeling failed by the law, the father captures the man he believes responsible and begins to torture him in a desperate attempt to find out what he did with the girls, whom he's convinced are still alive." How do we give a vengeance flick credibility? Oh, I know, add a little Bale.

• I love Maria Bello, so when I found out that Adam Sandler has tapped her for his next star-studded comedy, featuring Kevin James, Chris Rock, Rob Schneider, David Spade, Salma Hayek, and Maya Rudolph, I was ecstatic. It's about high school friends who reunite after 30 years. Only in a Sandler film would a bunch of dweebs score those hot chicks for wives. Bello plays James' wife and I can't wait to see who scored Hayek.

• You know when a plot sounds so boring you can't believe someone's going to take two hours to unveil it? Well, after reading that Jennifer Garner signed up for a comedy called Butter, where she'll play a competitive butter-sculptor...I nearly fell asleep while writing that.

• I love meaningful teen rom-coms, like Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist, and hopefully David O. Russell's (I Heart Huckabees) Aaron and Sarah will be one of them. It's about a "nerdy guy and a popular girl who meet as freshmen and, over four years of high school, four proms and one funeral, become friends and eventually fall in love." That's how it should be done—over time. Some of the best rom-coms play out that way. I have high hopes for it, especially since the writers of "Pushing Daisies" are behind it.

  2. Alex deserves this opportunity. J Lo is the lucky one.

  3. Hope you're not suggesting that J-Lo has hit rock bottom because Alex is playing the male lead???
J-Lo is not exactly an A-List quality actress and Alex is a fine actor! Everyone has to start somewhere!!!

  4. I'm a a little confused also...why you would say J-Lo has hit rock bottom. Alex is an excellent actor and will be exceptional in a romantic comedy.

  5. I say "Lucky J Lo!" Alex O'Loughlin is uber-talented! He was sweet in "Oyster Farmer" and smokin' hot in "Moonlight." I have no doubt that he'll shine in this role!

  6. J Lo has hit rock bottom? Who are you kidding lady? Alex is such a good actor, J Lo should be kissing the casting director's feet for allowing her to even BE in a movie with him.

I just hope she doesn't drag the movie down, because I guarantee Alex will be phenomenal. He never disappoints.

  7. I will say, that is a terrible choice of words.
There is no actor that compares to Alex O'Loughlin. I am thrilled to have him back on the big screen. It is about time! I know that he will dazzle us with his gorgeous looks and amazing talent. Alex will steal every scene and will steal your heart.

  9. I'd love to see Alex O'Loughlin as the lead in a well written rom-com, but I must admit that I wouldn't have picked Jennifer Lopez opposite him. However, she is gorgeous to look at and can probably still draw in big audiences. I just hope she can keep up with Alex ;-)

  11. So by starting your stupid comment with "lol" you thought that would soften the blow of your ridulous comment. JoLo should be so lucky to have Alex O'Loughlin drag her out of the rock bottom SHE put herself in. Who knows how good the script will be for this romantic comedy (since most of them stink) but Alex can make "art" out of junk.

  12. I remember Jennifer way back when she was a Fly Girl dancer on the TV show Living Color. Someone gave her an opportunity. Why are we questioning this same opportunity be afforded Alex O’Loughlin. I feel the comment that JLo has hit rock bottom was inappropriate. Alex is a talented actor that has worked hard to get a big break. Alex has the ability to transformed himself and make believable every role he has taken on. Check him out in The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant, Feed, Oyster Farmer The Shield and Moonlight. They are all out on DVD.

  13. May I remind you that George Clooney started out on TV? See where that led him? And Alex HAS been in several movies already -- maybe you've heard of August Rush or Mary Bryant or White Out? Your rock bottom comment was really uncalled for. I'm glad you like Alex as he is truly talented, but your original post was NOT very generous to him. I think any movie that stars him and any actress that stars with him has hit the big time.

  14. Have you lost your mind? Alex is hot, gorgeous and extremely gifted! JLo should count her lucky stars for landing Alex!!

  15. All I can say has been said before. Your comment was way out of line and even if you tried to soften it at the end you owe Alex a huge apology

  16. Interesting comment about movie star having a tv star as leading man.....but with the state of the economy everywhere, including Hollywood, it IS difficult to get 2 movie stars in one movie.....however, the choice of Alex is guaranteed to bring new viewers & fans to JLo. As you can tell by the above comments, Alex's fans are passionate if nothing else! Alex IS the Real Deal...he is going to surprise a lot of people by how GOOD he is and by how well he will carry his part of this movie. Alex has great comedic timing and I can't wait to see it on the big screen. This movie will be one to watch!

  17. Wow... LJo is one lucky lady!! No-one can see Alex O'Loughlin and not immediately love him... he shines in everything he does and JLo better watch out that he doesn't outshine her.. the screen adores Alex!!

Hopefully this turns out to be a big break for Alex... he deserves it! I really hope they have onscreen chemistry!
