Okay, first thing's first, this movie was not directed by Timur Bekmambetov, despite reports of that all over the web. It was co-directed by first-time Russian directors Dmitriy Kiselev and Alexandr Voitinsky, who are said to be friends with Timur Bekmambetov. Even if they're not friends, it's obvious all three have a knack for thinking outside of the box when it comes to Russian action films.
Black Lightning is the story of "a Moscow University student who becomes the owner of a flying car," and accepts the responsibility of having to be the city's sole crimefighter...while trying to bag a hot girl. It's like if Peter Parker's powers were in his car. Plus, the stunts are so sick you might forget it's not in English. :(
It'll hit Russian theaters December 31st, but there's no word on a US distributor yet. Relax, if we can score Timur's other films, Night Watch and Day Watch, I'm sure this'll be available eventually.
