TRAILER: Seth Rogen's "Green Hornet" vs. Ryan Reynolds's "Green Lantern"

I know that Seth Rogen literally worked his butt off in order to be fit enough to play a superhero, but after so many setbacksfrom flaky directors to casting issuesand his plan for it to be more Dark Knight than Iron Man, I didn't have much confidence that it would be very good. I thought it would fall flatter than Watchmen, and barely make enough to cover the budget. I had higher hopes for Green Lantern. I thought it was a no-brainer. Spandex? Check! Unforeseen destiny thrusted upon an athletically built rebel? Check! A handsome and charming protagonist? Check! It was perfect. Then I watched both trailers and was very surprised as to which I preferred.

The Green Hornet
PLOT: By night, debonair newspaper publisher Britt Reid (Rogen) fights crime as a masked superhero known as The Green Hornet. At his side is martial arts expert Kato (Chou).

CAST: Seth Rogen, Jay Chou, Christoph Waltz (Inglorious Basterds), Cameron Diaz, Tom Wilkinson

VERDICT: It looks like he balked and added a lot of humor, but it has the best of both worlds. It has that Iron Man feelaction-packed and full of laughs, and it's like Batman meets Bond. He's got a kick-ass sidekick, super cool gadgets, a souped up car, killer fighting skills, and a ridiculous villain. Sounds like fun!

Release Date: February 18

Green Lantern
PLOT: A test pilot (Reynolds) is granted a mystical green ring that bestows him with otherworldly powers, as well as membership into an intergalactic squadron tasked with keeping peace within the universe.

CAST: Ryan Reynolds, Peter Sarsgaard, Mark Strong, Blake Lively (The Town and "Gossip Girl")

VERDICT: I love Reynolds's humor and his enthusiasm, but those other Green Lanterns and the super thin costume don't look very well-designed. And don't even get me started about Lively as a brunette. I dunno. It just kind of looks cheesy.

Release Date: June 17

Which one are you going to see?
