It may be a happy New Year, but this box office is looking pretty sad. Check out what it has to offer:
One Missed Call
It's a horror movie about a bunch of 20-somethings that are slowly being picked off Final Destination-style with a lovely phone-call-warning that puts a twist on the Ring-tape omen. When a victim gets a voicemail, they are subjected to listening to the date, time and details of their death. The twist is that they're receiving these phone calls from their future selves. Starring are Shannyn Sossamon ("Moonlight"), Edward Burns (Life or Something Like It) as the cop investigating, Azura Skye ("Zoe, Duncan, Jack, & Jane"), and Meagan Good (Stomp the Yard). Needless to say, it's a remake of a Japanese film--as most great horror movies are these days. The director is a French import (Eric Valette) and this is the screenwriter's (Andrew Klavan - Don't Say a Word) first gig in 7 years.
OR
The Killing of John Lennon
It's a dramatic British indie that delves into the mind of the man who murdered the rock star John Lennon.
If you don't find either one of these fascinating, you could always resort to watching what's already in theaters or rent a new release. I'd recommend Juno, Enchanted, and The Golden Compass for the theatrical options. But if you're still suffering from a killer New Years' hangover, you might want to opt for a night in with Resident Evil: Extinction, Shoot Em Up, or War.
