Is it the anniversary of Sherlock Holmes or something? Within a month two projects about
Sherlock Holmes have been publicized. The first, set for 2010, will be directed by
Guy Ritchie (
Snatch), who will be adapting
Lionel Wigram's comic book version, not
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's mystery novels.
Ritchie intends on breaking through that refined persona Holmes is known for and focus more on his adventurous qualities, like his boxing and sword fighting skills. Think of it as
Indiana Jones meets
Casino Royale.
Then there's the second project that's being produced by
Judd Apatow, which
will be based on
Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's mystery novels. While
Ritchie hasn't cast anyone just yet,
Apatow already has
Sacha Baron Cohen (
Borat) set to play Holmes and
Will Ferrell as Watson. Adding to the hilarity that these three will surely produce is screenwriter
Etan Cohen, who's been getting a lot of respect for his
Tropic Thunder script.
I'm actually excited to see both of them. Which one do you want to see?
