TV Topic: True Blood's Vampire Viagra

In every episode that's aired, Tara has gotten on my nerves. I can understand a girl obsessing over a boy. I am a girl. I've facebook-stalked a guy before. Every girl has teetered on that line between adorably crushing and psychotically stalking. But normally the guy that a girl obsesses over (at least on TV) is worth the worship. Jason isn't. Yes, he's very sexy. But he's dumb, and irresponsible, and...dumb! How many times does a woman you're sleeping with have to die before you realize that maybe you should stop being a manwhore?!--at least until people stop dying.

But it wasn't until Tara's little flashback--that told the story of the day she fell in love with him--that I finally stopped feeling ashamed that she was representing the African American female race. In the memory, Tara's drunken mother was trying to beat her and she ran to Sookie for sanctuary. But the person who answered the door was a pre-teen Jason who dared to threaten her mother with imprisonment if she didn't leave immediately. He was pretty badass for a kid, and I can understand now why she might find him desirable for so damn long. Nobody stands up for her--no one dares to--and she's had to take care of herself since she was a kid, so to her Jason's freaking Prince Charming. And because good men are so hard to find in that shitty little vampire-infested town--and only because of that--she held that dumb bastard's hand as a doctor drained the blood from his 24hr+ hard-on after he induced a vial of vampire blood.

Even though Sookie went to a vamp bar with Bill and met a head-vamp that was overly interested in them, and Sam continued to make viewers suspect that he has some canine DNA by rolling around in dead Dawn's sheets, overcome by her scent, it felt like a 55-minute PSA on why you shouldn't take sexual performance-enhancing drugs--and a hilarious one at that. I can't help but laugh at how pathetically desperate Jason looked. But that episode really belonged to Tara and she reached her peak when she uttered the words, "School is just for white people looking for other white people to read to them. I figured I'd save my money and read to myself."
