FILM: Children's Book Adaptations: Berenstain Bears, Yogi Bear, and Guardians of Childhood
Where the Wild Things Are's mild success may have opened the floodgates for unorthodox children's books to be adapted. Next up is William Joyce's The Guardians of Childhood, a story about a group of iconic figures (Santa Claus, Jack Frost, the Easter Bunny, Tooth Fairy, and Sandman), who join together to stop the Boogeyman from engulfing the world into darkness. The film is set for Christmas 2010.
Two more familiar children's characters are being adapted Garfield-style, where live action will be mixed with animation. The more familiar children's book, The Berenstain Bears, will focus on contemporary topics that are relevant to both children and parents. That sounds really ambitious. And the cartoon series Yogi Bear will be voiced by Justin Timberlake, Anna Faris, and Dan Aykroyd.
