Last December, I compared the trailers for Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz's Knight and Day to Gerard Butler and Jennifer Anniston's The Bounty Hunter. After the latter's lackluster premiere last week, it looks like I might be right about Cruise's film fairing better. We won't know for sure until it hits theaters June 25th, but it looks like he'll be having even more competition in the action subgenre of falling in love while getting shot at a la Mr. and Mrs. Smith. Three weeks before, on June 4th, Katherine Heigl and Ashton Kutcher's action rom-com Killers will be hitting theaters, and its plot is even more similar to Knight and Day than The Bounty Hunter was.
In both films, dashing men sweep beautiful, clueless blondes off their feet, only to later reveal that they have dangerous jobs that involve murderers. The women attempt to adapt to the guy's environment, now that they're also targets, and comically learn how to use a weapon and evade assassins. Regardless of which is better, neither will surpass Mr. and Mrs. Smith in quality, because Angelina Jolie's character was her husband's equal, which made it a lot less condescending. Jolie is actually currently filming a twist on the subgenre, where technically Johnny Depp is her damsel in distress.
But if I had to choose, my money's still on the Cruise-Diaz flick. Heigl-Kutcher's trailer just isn't as funny. And in a fight between Anniston, Heigl, and Diaz, I'd choose Diaz for combat and humor every time. Which do you prefer?
Release Date: June 4
Release Date: June 25
Also, what's up with these posters? Heigl has a horrible case of mom-hair (which would be fine if she were playing a mom).
Gotta go with Heigl she is good at comedy and absolutely gorgeous. Diaz is just very ordinary and not particularly attractive.
